scope

A scope is a type of permission to limit access to the value of a variable. A scope acts as a container to hold data in a protected format so it can be passed from one part of a process flow to another and remain protected from access between the time the data is set to the time it is retrieved.

A scope is useful for preventing a subprocess from accessing data in a parent process.

For more information, refer to scoped variable.
