Creates a linked work item for other participants, in Modern Work Center.

Prerequisites

Good to Know

  • Once you create the linked work item, a duplicate task starts for the specified user.
  • This duplicate task does not need to complete for the process to move forward.
  • This topic applies to Modern Work Center. For Classic Work Center, refer to Create Linked Work Item screen (Classic).

How to Start

  1. Click Work Center.

    Click Work Center
  2. In the left pane, click Inbox > Tasks.

    Click Inbox Tasks
  3. On the task list, click Ellipses (...) > Create Linked Work Item.

    Click Create Linked Work Item

Fields

Field NameDefinition

Task Name

Function:
Shows the name of the task.
Accepted Values:
Read only.

Process Instance

Function:
Shows the process instance name.
Accepted Values:
Read only.

Assigned To

Function:
Specifies the participant to whom to assign the linked work item.
Accepted Values:
A user name from the list.
Default Value:
None

Comments

Function:
Specifies a description for the task you created for a participant.
Accepted Values:
More than one line of text.
Default Value:
None

Duration

Function:
Specifies the number of time units to do the work in the set time.
Accepted Values:
An integer.
Default Value:
1
Example:
If you enter 2, the task expires in 2 seconds, days, hours, or minutes, as you specified in the Time Unit.

Time Unit

Function:
Specifies the unit of time for the task to expire.
Accepted Values:
  • Second
  • Minute
  • Hour
  • Day
  • Month
  • Year
Default Value:
Day

Business Hours

Function:
Determines whether the time span represents actual time or business hours.
Accepted Values:
  • On - The time span represents business hours only. For example, 5 days of business time might be equivalent to 7 days of actual time. 8 hours of business time might be equivalent to 24 hours of actual time.
  • Off - The time span represents actual time. There is no effect for any business time configuration settings.

Example:
If the Business Hours field is turned on, business hours are configured as 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A manual activity with a time span of 6 business hours is entered at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, then the task must be completed by 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
