Why Do I Sometimes Receive a 401 (Unauthorized) HTTP Error in a VMWare Virtual NLB Environment?

When using AgilePoint NX in an NLB environment in "non-sticky" mode, a 401 (Unauthorized) HTTP error sometimes appears in the SharePoint log related to the SharePoint task list Web Part. This 401 error shows:

Unable to connect to AgilePoint Server. Verify the Impersonator credentials in the AgilePoint Configuration List.

• Two SharePoint machines in an NLB configuration

Details

When using AgilePoint in an NLB environment in "non-sticky" mode, a 401 (Unauthorized) HTTP error sometimes appears in the SharePoint log related to the SharePoint Task List Web Part. The 401 error says, "Unable to connect to AgilePoint Server. Verify the Impersonator credentials in the AgilePoint Configuration List."

In an AgilePoint NLB environment, 401 errors can occur when the NLB configuration is set to "non-sticky" mode. The solution is to turn the NLB configuration to "sticky" mode.
