AgilePoint NX Release Number FAQ

This section explains the release numbers for AgilePoint NX.

What are the release types?

Major Versions

  • Include a change in the numbered version. The numbered version is typically preceded by a "v" — for example, v6.0 or v7.0.
  • Distributed with full installers.
  • Do not have as prerequisites any previous releases of AgilePoint NX installed. In other words, the primary installers are fresh installers, but upgrade installers are also available for major versions.
  • Provide major new features, such as new software components, plus new fixes, and roll up all fixes and enhancements from previous versions.
  • Receive extended Release Notes, as well as other documentation updates, such as updates to the Installation and Upgrade guides, that are typically only updated with major releases.

Service Packs

  • Considered major releases, similar to Major Versions.
  • Provide major new features, such as new software components, plus new fixes, and roll up all fixes and enhancements from previous versions. Service Packs tend to have fewer major new features or components than major releases, but this is not always the case.

  • Distributed with automated installers, with prerequisites. Software Updates roll up any enhancements and fixes that have been released since the last Major Version or Service Pack, but they do not roll up the Major Version or Service Pack.
