What Version of the .NET Version Do I Need to Run AgilePoint BPMS in My Environment?

AgilePoint BPMS is offered in versions that support different versions of .NET. These .NET versions are referred to in the AgilePoint product release number — for example, AgilePoint BPMS v5.0 SP4 for .NET 4.0.

The .NET version indicates the exact version of the .NET Framework in which the AgilePoint software code is compiled for a particular release. This is important for the following reasons:

• It determines what third-party software with which a particular version of AgilePoint BPMS is compatible. This is especially important for SharePoint.
• It determines the exact version of the .NET Framework your custom AgileParts, AgileWorks, and AgileConnectors must be compiled to work with a version of AgilePoint.
• In some cases, it determines what AgilePoint add-on components are compatible with a particular software version. For example, prior to v5.0 SP4, AgileForms was not compatible with .NET 4.0.

The .NET Framework version indicated in an AgilePoint release name indicates the minimum version of the .NET Framework you have installed on your machine. For example, if you are using .NET 3.5 AgilePoint product, you can have .NET Framework 3.5, 4.0, or 4.5 installed on your machine because all of these include the .NET 3.5 Framework.

On the other hand, if you are installing an AgilePoint .NET 4.0 product, you can have .NET 4.0 or 4.5 installed on your machine. .NET 3.5 is still included in these higher Framework versions, but you cannot have .NET 3.5 without also installing .NET 4.0 or higher.
