Use Process Variables to Configure an Activity or a Form Control

As an alternative to using literal data in a configuration field, process variables are short codes that let you use data that changes with input from process participants or external systems. To use process variables in activity or form control configuration, do the procedure in this topic.

How to Start

  1. Do one of these:
  2. On the configuration screen, click the Process Data tab.

Procedure

  1. On the Data screen, select the type of data you want.
    Field Name Definition

    Form Data

    Function:
    Expands the list of process data variables available from the forms in your application.

    Model Data

    Opens this Screen:
    Data Model screen
    Function of this Screen:
    Configures a data model for a process.

    Data Source (External)

    Opens this Screen:
    Data Model screen
    Function of this Screen:
    Configures a data source for a process.

    System Data

    Opens this Screen:
    Data > System Data
    Function of this Screen:
    Gives the process data variables that come out of the box (OOTB) for you to use in your application

    Global Data

    Function:
    Expands the list of process data variables you can use in the application.
